With this city running a giant deficit, with police, fire and teacher pensions unpaid, with Rahm talking about a $540 million property tax increase, maybe this kind of wasteful, extravagant crap should be put on hold for the time being. They have to be planted, they have to be watered. And the city could do the same thing with all the medians Daley put in. They are only two of many extravagances the city cannot afford right now, and that includes air-conditioned classrooms and neighborhood festivals that park district staff spend hours cleaning up after.
