I had one night to pack in as much Chicago nightscape photography as I could find, so I took a Lyft a little west of downtown and planned to walk my way back along the river toward my hotel on Michigan Ave.
The Lyft driver mentioned the former meat packing district and I was all in. We went up and down a few blocks before I spotted these tracks and decided to jump out and try for a shot. My driver was so cool, he offered to wait for me to get the picture before dropping me at my intended destination. As I hopped out, naturally, I discovered I was still a block short of clearing some power lines and bright lights, so I took off running up the center track. Realizing, he could at any moment lose patience and drive off, I set up the tripod on the track and opened up for a 30sec exposure of those red lights. Just then, a train came speeding from behind me and I was not sure which of the 3 tracks it was on, but made a gamble to leave my camera and tripod on the track as I stood sideways on the gravel between tracks, sucked in my gut, and thought "skinny" thoughts.
"Woooo-OOOooooo..." the horn blasted at me and I felt the rhythmic tremor begin to increase through my feet. I figured if my flimsy travel tripod started shaking, the shot would be ruined. As soon as the train began to pass the camera, I went ahead and closed the shutter early to minimize motion blur.
I had a moment to check to pic on the screen and bolt back for the car. He was still waiting when I got there. Thanks, Anthony - best Lyft driver ever!
I believe I had the 1.5x teleconverter attached to my FA77mm f/1.8 when I pulled it from the bag, so I just went with that. All the lights around here are the sodium vapor type, so I had to adjust the white balance a bit in post to neutralize some of that orange.
Thanks for looking!

This alley at one time was a very hot and busy area... These super batteries were working around the clock to produce product to help build our world... but now there is no use for them and this alley has become cold through the years...
