MBA-Photography has added a photo to the pool:
The most recent set of photos I'm taking for no other reason than to document a vanishing Chicago. This corner of Belle Plaine and Lincoln Ave is still standing (for now). Other buildings on this same block have been bought up and are meeting the wrecking ball (many in the past three months). As the pace of teardowns continues, I know that I can't afford to stay for much longer.
I've called North Centre home for 5 years, and in that time I've seen so much of its history erased. Bland condo blocks are going up everywhere. Long standing family run businesses are being replaced by faceless chains and even the people are changing. The people all are pushing strollers with toddlers, driving Subuarus, and lining up for craft brewery tours. My neighborhood now feels like a clone of any wealthy city neighborhood in the country with the standard sports bars, hair salons, yoga studios, and holistic medicine shops,
I wonder and worry what will happen when their kids reach high school. Are we going to see a mass exodus, or will new families even be able to settle in?
